It's a Wrap

Alright everyone! As Fashion Week comes to an end, it's time to get back to a sense of reality. It's quite addicting, trying to snap the perfect shot, or at least a shot that evokes a sense of the subjects personality. I get lost in my own little world. I am not always after the most amazing fashion ensemble, I will leave that up to you, the viewer of the photographs. But I am after fashion that strikes me personally. However I'm more interested in the way the wearer's personality and fashion sense merges into creating this type of energy that emanates from them and out to the way people perceive them. When someone is wearing something they love, you can feel it in the way they walk, or you can see it through the expression on their faces...this is what I'm interested in capturing when I press my little red button on my camera. To me, this is what fashion is all about-self expression.

Even though fashion week is wrapping up, my picture file is full of photos I need to sort through...so, check back often. Thank you to all my followers and for your comments, I love reading them.

Vogue in Shades

As New York Fashion week continues it's week long engagement at Bryant Park, I just couldn't help but to post these photos I took at the tents, of Anna Wintour, Vogue magazine's Editor-in-Chief and Andre Leon Talley, Vogue magazine's Editor-at-Large. Oddly enough, I'm not posting these shots for fashionable reasons! *cough cough* I've posted them for the fun of it. Besides, it's Anna & Andre.

From Kenya to New York

I'm adoring the concept behind the new fashion line that launched in 2008. The Creator of the Suno fashion house, Max Osterweis has collected textiles from Kenya over a course of a decade, and is now using these bold patterned fabrics in his garments. While the design and development stays in New York, the fabrics are brought back to Kenya where the clothing is made by Kenyan locals in small workshops. Employing local Kenyan artisans, and treating them fairly is bringing about positive change despite the country's political disorder. Suno's first collection consists of 1000 one of a kind pieces for 2009 Spring/Summer. From Kenya to New York...bold, colorful and ethically smart.

Wu for Ru, and his Plastic Ladies!

Alright, you all remember Jason Wu, right?! The designer who found success over night, yes, the one who designed Michelle Obama's dress for the Inauguration ball. Well, I never knew he was a doll designer! Here are just some of his amazing designs. The first one is a Ru Paul doll, for Ru's new show Drag Race, which, by the way is a great show on logo...very entertaining. Just a little kick off to Fashion Week kids. Enjoy! Be sure to click on photos for the details.

Quality Made like the Old Days

Freemans Sporting Club is a great shop located in NoLita in NYC. They even have an old school barber shop! I love that. Anyway, I appreciate what they stand for; the entire F.S.C brand is built around the vanishing trade of handmade clothing. It is built to be durable and made to worn day in and day out. In the modern landscape of disposable fashion, F.S.C. strives to create classically styled clothing to stand the test of time and last long enough to be willed to their heirs

Fashion, Vintage & Photography = Robert Christian Malmberg

Robert Christian Malmberg, a very talented photographer located in New York will sit you down in his studio with makeup artists and hairstylists to prep you for your shoot. Think of it as Glamour shots! Well, not quite. Robert shoots with an antique bellows camera and a vintage lens, and mixes up chemicals etc., to recreate a look as if you've been photographed during the civil war era. So, glamour shot not...but nostalgic vintage yes! I really appreciate his whole concept and approach. Malmberg can also be found shooting models backstage during fashion events etc. His amazing pieces can be purchased from his website... or better yet, just schedule your next portrait shot with Robert Malmberg.

The Man Behind the Forge

Philip Crangi, a New York based jewelry designer is putting the fire to the metal with his creations that are inspired from Greco-Roman artifacts, Baroque ironwork, and Japanese armor. You can find the trained goldsmith's collection at Barneys amongst boutiques through out the country and overseas, he has also collaborated with Vera Wang. The fusion of Vera's elegant style and Philip's hard and edgy designs produced genius pieces. Crangi often time begins his creations by doodling on the subway, then goes back to his work room to create his vision. Currently, he's been inspired by African and Art Deco, two of my favorite styles! His jewelry are for both men and women.

The Art of Origami

When you see a commercial, or an ad in a magazine that contains little or large origami figures, more than likely it's the genius folding work of Sok Ho Song! Sok works for a New York based design group, Blasa Brjost. They serve the needs of retail and fashion industries, museums and special events. I love his little creased creations, and I especially love the idea of juxtoposing origami and fashion together.
Song teaches the art of origami in the city. visit this website for more info. www.meetup.com/omgnyc

Spiritual Enlightenment

Those of you who are seeking a spiritual enlightenment try visiting the Brandy Library in New York. No, not Buddha enlightenment, but the intoxicating enlightenment of Brandy, the fine spirit.

Our friends came into the city from Philadelphia and suggested we go to the Brandy Library...I had no idea what it was, I was expecting an old library with amazing architecture that housed great books. I then googled it, and was surprised to learn that it was a bar that carried an assortment of the spirit. I was excited, I mean...come on! Our dog is even named after the caramel colored liquor. Upon entering the Brandy Library, I instantly fell in love with the ambiance that the dim lit walls created. The collection of bottles that contained the different hues of burnt colored liquid that wrapped the large room was visual overload for me. I just love how a nice bottle of liquor glows with the proper back light! Anyway...the aroma of the brandy was warm and comforting. As a designer, I believe two important elements are ambient lighting and scent. This bar definitely has that!

Their huge bible of a menu was pretty overwhelming but impressive. If you can't find it nowhere else, you'll find that rare spirit here, say, a 1945 Darroze armagnac, Pierre Ferrand cognac 1914, or a Springbank 1969 single malt. Their collection amasses more than 900 bottles. Oh, and a menu of 100 signature and classic cocktails, carefully chosen wines (still and spakling) and beers, and a decadent selection of hors d'oeuvres.

My friends and I all walked out of the Library, maybe staggering a little, but content and enlightened none the less...
