Big Love for Chloe's Collection

The actress who plays the cold, conniving polygamist wife in Big Love, Chloe Sevigny is demonstrating her love of fashion in her new collection which will debut next month in Opening Ceremony stores. Chloe's idea of making the line unisex-ish is genius...unisex always catches my attention, and the little black jacket (above) certainly snatches it. Come August, I'll be one of the first at Opening Ceremony's steps.

The Sartorialist minute!

OK...yeah! I even confess, I fantasize about getting my 1 minute photo session with Scott Schumann! But I've given up. It takes the perfect combination of being at the right place at the right time, the perfect ensemble, the perfect roll of the pant, or shirt sleeve. The perfect worn or not so worn shoe. The perfect belt or bag, and lastly an effortless stance on the street with the amber glow of the sun catching your profile... and cut! Basically the stars have to be flawlessly aligned for that Sartorialist minute! Well, the step by step guide that Refinery 29 posted will help you get one step closer to that "Here I am Scott, I'm ready for my close up" moment.

Andy Andy Andy

Stephen Shore spent his teen years in the mid-sixties hanging out at Andy Warhol’s studio. His touching and beautiful photographs documenting the Factory scene are filled with glamour-pusses like Edie Sedgwick, Nico, and Ingrid Superstar, as well as Andy himself, looking bemusedly at all that goes on around him. In one startling image, Warhol sits with his back to a woman who is pointing a gun at his head. You almost want to yell, “Watch out, Andy!”

Man Bag

During my recent sun worshiping, shell fish fest, cucumber martini sipping, bike riding, and beach travels to Provincetown, MA. ( Sigh, I want to go back!) I couldn't resist stopping off at a little store on the Commercial St. strip called MAP. By far, it's the best store in P-Town. We all know P-Town is for the gays, and the gays love shopping...but this little town is really just known for it's parties, bars, and food. Since I am not much of a party boy (gone are those days) All of you who know me best, know that shopping is always on the top of my list before any drunk fest, especially when it includes the likes of man accessories...BAGS, BAGS, BAGS! Map carries the Japanese, Porter Yoshida bag line. How the Japanese know how to construct a bag!! I've been searching for the perfect back pack...one with function, simplicity, style and detail. I love everything about this one, and being the bag whore that I am, I was sold on the addition of the handle straps to be used as a tote! So, even though this one is a back pack and looks "manly", it contains a little sass as well...the perfect man bag.

Too Good To Let Pass By

I don't have a whole lot of time to go shopping these days, but this weekend I found myself in the SOHO area, and the new J Crew's men's shop looked too good to let pass by.

The new store has a raw aged vibe, pairing some of the original historic structures from the 1800s with unvarnished barnwood knotty pine paneled walls and bare plank flooring. The space is reminiscent of a cross between a tailor shop from the 50s and someone’s library. Random yet beautiful paraphernalia, such as a collection of vintage locks, that seemed to be curated or found instead of bought adorn the space. In the back of the shop, there’s the Suit Shop, which plays with an interesting store within a store concept, and it houses J. Crew’s signature Ludlow and Aldridge styles alongside a vintage tie bar and high calibre shirting. The historical original storefront and interior design paired with a meticulously selected array of items draw the entire space together into a reminiscent narrative.

One of the most delightful aspects of the new store is the plethora of exclusive collaborative pieces with some of the most renowned and skilled menswear companies such as Russell Moccasin shoes, Thomas Mason shirts and Alden oxfords. Other than heritage brands, J. Crew has also brought in edgier, but nevertheless high quality labels such as Mister Freedom to collaborate on some key pieces and accessories.

I'm busy...but back to blogging!!

I've been away from the blogging world for a little while, but now I am back to let you all know what I've been up to. Recently, I was hired on with the New York City based interior design firm, Huniford Design Studio. Ford, the owner and principal threw me into his world of busy, busy, busy, and make it work, make it work, make it work!! Well, I guess I'm exaggerating a little, but It's really nice working with a team of designers again. Before, I was designing on my own, and that got lonely once in a while, but atleast I had great clients that kept me entertained. The project I am currently working on at Huniford is the charity event called Design on a Dime.

Design on a Dime is New York City’s most popular interior design charity event! For the fifth anniversary, 50 of the world’s top interior designers will create unforgettable room vignettes with new merchandise, donated and then sold for 60 to 80 percent off retail pricing.

All proceeds from Design on a Dime go to Housing Works, the nation’s largest grassroots AIDS service organization. Founded in 1990, Housing Works provides lifesaving services to homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS at facilities such as its Stand Up Harlem House, a fully renovated 16-apartment multiple-brownstone residence. More than 20,000 homeless men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS have benefited from Housing Works’ housing, medical and dental care, meals, job training and other vital services. Since 2005 Design on a Dime has raised more than $2 million in support of Housing Works.

The photos above are just some of the works of Huniford Design Studios. I am very pleased to be working for such an amazing, prominent N.Y. designer, and even more pleased that I am involved with such a great charity event, it makes what I do even that much more meaningful. I promise to keep everyone posted on my journey, and always remember to check back for those small bites from this Big Apple! xoxoxo

Saving Fashion...At The Port Authority!! HUH?!

I'm there!

"Save Fashion is a fresh new kind of shop and sale that brings together today's coolest fashion brands in a space that's inspiring and unexpected. Realizing the tired sample sale and outlet vibe had run its course, Save Fashion has created the Sample Sale of our dreams—a place where all our favorite designers came together in one beautiful space and at prices we could all afford. Save Fashion will debut May 1st in New York at one of the City's most iconic destinations: the Port Authority Bus Terminal. With Save Fashion, they hope to restore the pure joy of shopping—at a grassroots level, city to city—reminding consumers and designers alike that fashion is, was, and always will be FUN."

Some of my favorites will be sold at the Port Authority from Philip Crangi jewels to Acne and Steven Alan clothes, and for a whole month starting May 1!! I'm counting down for this one...and I better not get another cold this time!

In Honor of Earth Day

I wanted to share this video with you in honor of earth day. The Guide Girls, Maxine and Winnie have created a very funny website, giving earth friendly advice, but in a very humorous way. I've actually learned a thing or two from these gals!

13 Most Beautiful...

Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests

Ann + Paul + Edie + Billy + Susan + Dennis + Mary + Nico + Freddy + Richard +Ingrid + Lou + Jane.

I finally received my Limited Edition DVD of Andy Warhol's "13 Most Beautiful...Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests". With my pre-order I also received a limited edition gelatin silver print photo of Edie Sedgwick and a booklet and poster. when I opened the nicely silver packaging, It reminded me when I opened my Madonna, "Sex" book which is also silver, and was about the same size. Both 13 Most Beautiful and Sex are just wonderfully packaged...OK, I'm a sucker for organization, and first impressions!

So, I sat down and watched the DVD yesterday with my camera in hand to photograph 13 shots from the film so that I could post the photos today for everyone. Andy Warhol's Screen Tests were filmed from early 1964 - November 1966. Factory visitors who had potential "star" quality would be seated in front of a tripod mounted camera, asked to be as still as possible, and told not to blink while the camera was running, however most people blinked of course and just ended up doing their own thing. Each "star" was filmed with 100 foot rolls of film. All the screen tests were exactly the same length. The resulting films were projected in slow motion so that each lasted approximately 4 minutes, at 16 frames per second. The results were really fascinating, because within that period of time, their personalities and emotions came out...while some cried, others laughed, posed, smoked, drank, and some had a hard time looking into the camera such as Paul America, and Dennis Hopper. I personally loved Ingrid Von Schevens screen test, for her crafty finger flipping during the entire filming.

Out of 500 Screen tests these 13 are the first that have been converted over to DVDs for the public to purchase. Thanks to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and Plexifilms here in Brooklyn, NY...Their collaboration on this project has been well worth the wait since the day I pre-ordered about 3 months ago!

Walls of Whimsy.

Recently, I discovered the great works of Tracy Kendall. A wallpaper designer, who approaches her creations as one of a kind art installations. From buttons that look like mother of pearl to, sequins, and tassels, Tracy seems to find a way to make these ordinary materials sparkle and dazzle. With a lot of patience, smarts and skill, her three dimensional wallpapers are sure to impress. As Tracy Says - "My wallpapers look so different because I’m not trying to mass-produce anything – I want them to convey a strong idea but not to dominate the room so much that that there is not room for anything else." One thing is for sure...you'll be making a little extra room for dust bunnies, so you'll have to give your house cleaner a pay increase or else you'll be cleaning off all those bunnies yourself!
